Music
I consider myself a very open-minded person when it comes to music. I like music that grooves, music that screams, music that calms. I like stuff that you listen to sitting in a relaxed environment, I like stuff that makes you want to smash everything around you.
Whether an artist is inactive or active, alive or dead, making music in the 1970s or the 2020s, that doesn't really matter to me in the grand scheme of things. I put an emphasis on trying to support contemporary artists though: after all, they are the ones that I can watch grow and evolve in real time. I hate snobbery, especially the kind that judges art by the year it was released.
On this page, I'll try to collect some of my favourite artists, albums and document as many live shows that I've been to as possible. The way to my heart is through music you're passionate about. If you have something that you think I might like, tell me about it!
How I collect music
I'm in the process of building a digital music library for me and my close friends and family, with the eventual goal of saying goodbye to Spotify and other streaming services. I'm using Navidrome as a music server and Lidarr as an audio collection manager. I'm piecing together my collection from the following sources:
- Other people's CD collections
- My Bandcamp collection
- CDs from my local library
- The SoulSeek network
- Public torrents

This list is very incomplete because I unfortunately don't remember every artist for every show I've been to over the years. This is especially true for support bands, but also events where the specific band was not the main reason why I went there (e.g. bars/pubs with live music, street festivals, etc.).
